ZPP was set up in 2009 by our Founder, Dr Cheryl Mvula, originally as a project of the Born Free Foundation. Today, we are a Zambian-owned and registered not-for-profit primate welfare organisation operating out of Kafue National Park in Zambia.
We work in close collaboration with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW), in support of their remit to protect Zambia’s wildlife.
We are a small organisation, with big impact. Our passion is fuelled by a grass-roots practicality, with our entire focus being on rescuing primates off the end of their chains and giving them a second chance of freedom back in the wild.

Zambia Primate Project was set up with critical, ongoing funding from the Born Free Foundation (BFF). The Olsen Animal Trust (OAT) joined the ZPP family as a major donor in 2016 and Humane Society International (HSI) Australia in 2010.
